The “Light of Faith” tour is the premier international sporting initiative of St. Peter’s Cricket Club, the official cricket team of the Vatican, whose patron is His Holiness Pope Leo XIV.
Composed entirely of Catholic priests, deacons, and seminarians from all over the world, the team uses the values of cricket – fair play, civility, and fellowship – to pursue its core mission of evangelisation through sport and culture.
Over the past decade, the club has travelled to Argentina, Kenya, Portugal, Spain, Malta, and the United Kingdom. During these tours, the team has played a number of high-profile matches as well as a variety of multi-faith groups at iconic venues like Lord’s Cricket Grounds, The Houses of Parliament and the Spitfire Ground in Canterbury.
The team is frequently invited to play at Windsor Castle against the Royal Household Cricket Club.
In 2018, this historic fixture was held in the presence of the late HM Queen Elizabeth II, who was keen to support her team.
Her Majesty served as the Royal Household club’s devoted patron throughout her reign – a grand tradition that proudly continues today under the current patronage of HM King Charles III.
For its next major chapter, the team has been formally invited to Monaco by HSH Prince Albert II and the newly revived Monte Carlo Cricket Club (MCCC).
The official launch of Team Monaco will commence with a match against the Vatican St. Peter’s Cricket team.
This historic inaugural match will be followed by an exclusive private reception and three-day itinerary for supporters and friends from July 7th – July 11th 2027.
A core pillar of every tour is local charitable engagement through corporal works of mercy.
Guided by the belief that sporting witness without charity is incomplete, the team integrates within their itinerary, special visits to local vulnerable communities. This outreach has included playing matches inside prisons as well as seminarians visiting hospitals, hospices, and homeless shelters.
Furthermore, the “Light of Faith Tour” doubles as a spiritual pilgrimage for accompanying guests and donors by offering spiritual talks, guided tours, visits to holy shrines, and access to the Sacraments.
This prestigious tour seeks donations to help fund the creation of the Vatican St Peter’s Cricket Endowment Fund and scholarships for seminarians to complete their studies at Mater Dei Pontifical International College Maria Mater Ecclesiae (PCIMME) in Rome.
